    The Capillary Channel Flow experiment on the International Space Station

    Between January and March 2011 scientists from DLR, ZARM Bremen, NASA and the Portland State University conducted a Capillary Channel Flow experiment on the International Space Station. The purpose of this endeavor is to investigate the behaviour of capillary flow through open capillary channels in an environment of compensated gravity. go

    Exhibition at karo 5 shows history of the institute Reaktortechnik at TU Darmstadt

    An exhibition shows the development of the institute “Reaktortechnik” (reactor engineering) at TU Darmstadt from its beginning in 1962. The exposition focuses on the reorientation of the institute's research in the years after the Chernobyl disaster and a further restructuring to the Department of Energy Systems and Technology in 2004. With the latter TU Darmstadt responded to the changes in society regarding nuclear power. go

    How to control the wetting dynamics of droplets

    Early spreading of electrolyte drops can be controlled via an electric potential and electrolyte concentration

    The early spreading of a drop is speeded up by the electrostatic energy stored in the electric double layer near the solid-liquid interface, a study by scientists at the Center of Smart Interfaces found. The degree of speeding-up does not only depend on electric potential, but also on electrolyte concentration. The results of the research were published in Physical Review Letters. go

    TU Darmstadt launches first UNICO Research Group “High Temperature Process Diagnostics"

    Future exhaust emission standards for vehicles will specify ever decreasing acceptable limits for pollutants. For some cases, industrially practicable measurement techniques for the detection of certain exhaust gas species reach the limits of their sensitivity. A new University Industry Collaborative Research Group (UNICO) at TU Darmstadt plans to further develop highly sensitive laser measurement techniques used at universities and research institutions into exhaust gas sensor technology ready for series production. go
