Summary
This Research Area considers a variety of micro-reactors and flow-through reactors in which significant process intensification, an increase of performance, or new process windows are made possible by influencing the near-wall transport properties of the flow. Influencing strategies include morphological structuring of the wall, making the wall surface porous, or changing surface energy. Actuation will also be considered as a means to guide liquid layers. Emphasis will be placed on falling-film micro-reactors, micro combustion and microstructured fuel processors, most of which involve catalytic reactions. Fundamental experiments will be accompanied by simulation efforts, optimisation studies and system demonstrators.
